RideShare Delaware Helps Commuters Cope
with the Rising Cost of Gas

Since February of 1997, RideShare Delaware has been providing commuters working in Delaware a variety of money-saving transportation options including; carpool matching, a guaranteed ride home benefit, transit resources, vanpool services and more. With the current cost of gas these services are increasing in value to commuters.

"If an individual carpools and does 50 percent of the driving, they are essentially cutting their gas cost in half; this adds up quickly with gas prices reaching ever closer to three dollars per gallon," stated Suzanne Reph, RideShare Delaware Program Manager. Year after year an overwhelming number of participants in our program list "cost- savings" as their number one reason for ridesharing, including 97% in 2004. The program is clearly helping commuters cut their daily travel costs. Sharing the ride reduces gas costs and the costs associated with vehicle wear and tear.

In an effort to reach their goals of reducing congestion, improving air quality and increasing mobility, RideShare Delaware also promotes the use of transit, walking, biking and vanpooling to work. To give commuters using these alternative commute modes peace of mind, RideShare Delaware offers a Guaranteed Ride Home benefit. In the event that an emergency arises during the work day RideShare Delaware provides a free ride home. Individuals currently sharing the ride can register with RideShare Delaware for this free program benefit.

Commuters interested in sharing the ride and cutting commute costs can contact RideShare Delaware at 1-888-RIDE-MATCH or visit www.ridesharedelaware.org. Employers interested in educating their employees about these money saving options can contact RideShare Delaware to set up a free worksite Transportation Fair.

RideShare Delaware is a free public service offered by Dart First State open to all commuters working in Delaware.
