TMA DELAWARE HOLDS 15th ANNUAL MEETING

Names New Executive Board of Directors

Wilmington -- On Friday, September 16, 2005, The Transportation Management Association of Delaware (TMA Delaware), held its 15th Annual Meeting at the Junior Achievement of Delaware office in Wilmington. The agenda included a review of FY 2005 accomplishments in member services and the RideShare Delaware program. Two guest speakers were present to discuss the impacts of the recently passed transportation bill, SAFETEA-LU (Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users), including a representative from both the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and Government Relations, Inc., lobbyist for the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT).

TMA Delaware presented awards to members in recognition of outstanding achievements during the last year. These awards recognized companies and individuals for their partnership with TMA Delaware in addition to its services under the RideShare Delaware contract. The efforts of these companies and individuals have significantly contributed to TMA's success in driving its mission of reducing traffic congestion in Delaware.

The following members received recognition awards:

  • State of Delaware was named RideShare Delaware employer of the year for registering 217 new commuters into the rideshare program.
  • VPSI, Inc. was named TMA Delaware's Business Partner of the Year Award for their partnership with the TMA in jumpstarting vanpooling as a growing mode of choice among Delaware employees.
  • Daniel LaCombe was awarded the TMA Delaware Peer Recognition Award for his long-standing contributions for support and development of transportation demand management strategies.

In addition, TMA Delaware recognized the following 6 organizations for their 15-year membership with the organization: Agilent Technologies; AstraZeneca; Delaware Department of Transportation; DuPont Company; Hercules, Inc.; and, WILMAPCO (the Wilmington Area Planning Council).

TMA Delaware is a collective, non-profit organization of private corporations and public agencies dedicated to achieving reductions in traffic congestion, improving mobility and air quality, and educating employers and their employees about transportation alternatives. TMA Delaware has a current membership of over 60 employers, as well as several public partners. TMA Delaware administers RideShare Delaware, a commuter rideshare assistance program provided as a free, public service by DART First State. RideShare Delaware maintains a confidential database of commuters who work in Delaware and are interested in sharing the ride to work. RideShare Delaware encourages and provides information about a variety of alternative commute modes including carpooling, vanpooling, transit, bicycling and walking.
