TMA DELAWARE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD RECEIVES AWARDWilmington -- The Transportation Management Association (TMA) of Delaware is pleased to announce that their Chairman of the Board, Thomas W. Davis, of DuPont, was awarded the "Board Leadership Award" from the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT). The award was received at the International ACT TMA Summit held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 16th, 2005. Mr. Davis was selected as the recipient of this prestigious award due to his long-term contributions towards transportation demand management solutions in Delaware. TMA Delaware is a collective, non-profit organization of private corporations and public agencies dedicated to achieving reductions in traffic congestion, improving mobility and air quality, and educating employers and their employees about transportation alternatives. The TMA is a long-time member of the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT), North America's most respected association for professionals who specialize in commute options and solutions as well as organizations, business and individuals interested in creating a more workable transportation system. Together with employers and government agencies, ACT works to create programs, services and products that help reduce traffic congestion, increase mobility, and improve air quality. ACT members represent a diverse cross-section of private-sector business and public-sector organizations working together to develop commute solutions with business and community benefits. Mr. Davis joined TMA Delaware as the member representative for DuPont in 1993 during the days of the Employee Commute Options (ECO) regulations imposed under the Clean Air Act and has been a member of TMA Delaware (TMA) for more than 12 years. During this time, he has served as Chairman a total of 6+ years and as Vice Chairman for an additional 6 years. Mr. Davis is recognized both at the local and federal level for his expertise in this area. He has been instrumental in crafting changes to Delaware law that allowed for the creation of regional programs as opposed to individual employer sponsored programs for carpooling, vanpooling, guaranteed rides home, etc. As Chairman of the Board, Mr. Davis is recognized by his peers and the TMA staff for providing a vision for the organization’s future. He is often called upon to join other transportation working committees as a representative of the TMA or employers in general. For example, he has served on the Wilmington Renaissance Corporation’s transportation committee; as a member of the Committee of 100’s transportation committee; and, he has served on the public advisory committee for the Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO).
